Women's Injury Study (WIN) - Recruitment Closed
The goal of the Women’s Injury Study (WIN) is to determine the incidence and predictors of musculoskeletal injuries in a cohort of 885 free-living adult women.
The focus is on quantifying the public health burden of these injuries and to identify demographic, orthopedic, biomechanical, body habitus, and physical activity-related risk factors for musculoskeletal injury. Strengths of the study will be the recruitment of a population of women broadly representative of the community, an extensive baseline clinical assessment of possible risk predictors, ongoing surveillance of both physical activity habits and injury outcomes, and confirmation of injury events by medical record review.
We are collecting information pertaining to sedentary, moderate, and vigorous physical activity behaviors that might be effect modifiers or confounding factors of the association between the emerging risk predictors and injury risk.
Findings from this study will provide empirical evidence upon which strategies for injury prevention can be developed and current health-related activity recommendations can be refined to minimize the risk of injury among susceptible women who are physically active, or wish to become physically active.
Participants are women ≥20 years without disease or condition that limits their usual daily, occupational, or recreational activities, and have the capability and willingness to sign an informed consent to participate in the study. All participants must have access to a computer with Internet capabilities. Women will be excluded if they have any disease or condition that limits their mobility without the use of assistive devices, plan to move out of the DFW area within the next 2 years, or have any life-threatening illness.
