Research

The ValUE Study (UTSW)

Urinary incontinence is a significant and prevalent health concern. Believed to affect approximately 16 million Americans, living with urine leakage is often mistaken as a normal part of aging. However, leakage from coughing and sneezing is commonly and effectively treated with surgery.

Many doctors choose to perform urodynamics (in-office bladder function test) versus a basic office evaluation to decide if surgery is needed. The ValUE Study's purpose is to determine if urodynamics is necessary and leads to a more effective surgical outcome.

We are currently enrolling patients in a research study for urinary incontinence. Participants must be:

  • Women > 21 years,
  • with stress incontinence,
  • and willing to have surgery.

This surgery involves procedures considered standard of care, so the costs of surgery, hospital stay, and some office visits will be billed to your insurance. Depending on your insurance, a co-pay or a deductible may be required.

If interested, please contact Tamara Dickinson at (214) 645-8787.

This study is being performed by The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Department of Urology, in conjunction with the Urinary Incontinence Treatment Network (UITN). Funding provided by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
