The Cooper Institute in joint sponsorship with The American Heart Association is proud to bring you the Adult Obesity in Clinical Practice series of multi-component, enduring online training and education programs.
The purpose of the Physical Activity Recommendations for Lasting Weight Loss educational activity is to provide health care professionals with introductory knowledge, skills, tools, and resources needed to work with overweight and obese patients on weight loss for the prevention of heart disease, stroke, some cancers and other chronic diseases.
The activity will provide continuing education opportunities that engage health care practitioners through text, audio, and interactive video. Education is also provided on how practical tools for dietary and weight management counseling can be incorporated into current practices given multiple barriers to screening, assessment, and intervention.
Additionally, the activity includes education regarding health care practitioner tools for screening for physical activity, assessing behaviors related to physical inactivity and/or physical activity, assessing readiness to change behaviors related to physical activity, providing brief behavioral counseling on changing behaviors that increase risk for overweight/obesity, and providing resources/referrals for frequent and long-term change, support, and follow-up.
The education also includes patient tools (e.g., downloadable PDFs)for providing recommendations on physical activity for weight management and guiding development of cognitive and behavioral skills for making and maintaining behavior changes.
Finally, an interactive web site will be included to host continuing education, health care practitioner, and patient tools as well as engage users in the weight management process by enabling them to communicate, participate, and share information with others.
Assessments related to the learning content for all segments of the education are also included in the instruction. Participants' will be evaluated at the end of the instruction to assess their knowledge and comprehension of the instructional content.
