First Responders both have very unique needs ranging from very basic fitness needs to those of a tactical athlete. The Cooper Institute Military and 1st Responder Exercise Leader Course addresses a wide variety of needs and ranges of fitness levels.

Through hands-on sessions (activity in 11 of the 19 sessions) you’ll learn how to create appropriate workouts that can be used for all of these circumstances.

The Law and Fire Group Training (formerly Military and First Responder Exercise Leader Course) was first developed through a collaborative research study at Langley Air Force Base. Since then it has been expanded to include components that can be amplified for the most skilled and modified for the most basic needs of trainees. Our goal is to prepare individuals for the basic to the most tactical jobs of First Responders.

As a student you will learn how to use a variety of settings and equipment (and sometimes no equipment) to put together circuit workouts, interval workouts and obstacle courses. Then you’ll create your own workout and receive feedback from instructors to help prepare you to confidently inspire and lead a small group through the workout by the end of the course. You’ll also learn and review basic underlying fitness principles that affect the design of workouts.

Please come dressed in fitness/workout attire. You will need to bring your valid CPR card. Individuals should be prepared to participate in exercise sessions. Individuals with limitations will be able to participate with modifications as needed. This is a curriculum-based testing course. Upon successful completion of the written and practical portions of the course and proof of CPR, you will receive a Cooper Institute Certificate.
