Certified Personal Trainer Examination

 

The Cooper Institute Certified Personal Trainer (CI-CPT) exam is now available
in Pearson VUE professional testing centers across the U.S.!

What you will need to register

  1. 18 years of age or older
  2. Current adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) that includes hands-on training
  3. Your 9 digit Cooper ID (if you have participated in Cooper education) – optional

Exam Price: $289

Retake Price: $195

Steps to Becoming a Certified Personal Trainer

  1. Prepare
    • Use the Study Resources Table in this guide.
    • You will need to know factual information and apply knowledge from all exam domains to a typical job situation.
    • If needed, you can take a course in personal training education from The Cooper Institute.

  2. Practice
    • We recommend you spend at least 10 hours in personal training role play with various types of clients.
    • A practice test is available here.

  3. Pick a Date and Location for the CI-CPT Exam
    • Your experience, background, and study level will help you decide when you are ready to
      take the certification exam.
    • Go to www.pearsonvue.com/cooperinstitute or call 1-877-383-2901 to schedule your exam date, time, and location.
    • Results will be available at the end of your testing session.

  4. Promote
    • Certified professionals may use the CI-CPT identity mark available by e-mail request at cicb@cooperinst.org.
