The Texas Education Agency released the statewide student fitness test results on Tuesday, July 1st. Schools used the FITNESSGRAM created by The Cooper Institute to test students this past spring.

Dr. Kenneth Cooper and Olympic Gold Medalist Jackie Joyner-Kersee announced today the donation of FITNESSGRAM to more than 40 diverse and low-income private schools and programs, as a result of The Cooper Institute’s “A Life Rx for Health” luncheon benefiting Our Kids’ Health.

The Texas Education Agency announced its selection of FITNESSGRAM as the statewide physical fitness assessment tool for more than 8,000 Texas schools at a news conference in Richardson, Texas. Afterwards, Arapaho Classical Magnet students demonstrated the six recommended FITNESSGRAM tests.

Governor Rick Perry held a ceremonial bill signing of Senate Bill 530 at Forest Vista Elementary School in Flower Mound, Texas—in the district of the bill’s author Senator Jane Nelson (District 12). The bill’s inspiration and champion Dr. Kenneth Cooper and Texas Education Agency Associate Commissioner Jeff Kloster also participated.

Senate Bill 530 was passed by the Texas Legislature and the bill was signed into law by Governor Rick Perry on June 15, 2007, marking a victory for children across the state.
