Education & Certification

The Cooper Institute Certified Personal Trainer (CI-CPT) exam is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) – the gold standard of quality for fitness certifying organizations. The CI-CPT exam is a stand-alone exam for persons interested in becoming a Certified Personal Trainer.

Third-party accreditation gives qualified certification programs a way to demonstrate that the certification is legitimate and credible. The Cooper Institute is a long-standing member of the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA).

The Cooper Institute works with the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) and fellow members of the fitness industry to raise the bar for organizations providing personal trainer certification. IHRSA has made the recommendation that its member clubs hire personal trainers who hold at least one current certification from an organization that has achieved accreditation from an independent and nationally-recognized agency such as NCCA.

The CI-CPT exam is also recognized by the Veterans Administration. Go to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs web site at www.va.gov for more information on the Veterans Administration and available education benefits and opportunities.
