Course Preparation

CPR Certification (for select courses)
The following courses require current CPR certification:

- Focus Pad Training (Home Study)
- Master Fitness Specialist

CPR certification is not required prior to attending a Personal Training Education option. However, if you wish to site for the CI-CPT Certification Examination, you must have CPR proof at exam check-in. Accepted forms of adult CPR must include a hands-on training component such as American Heart Association or Red Cross. Online, correspondence or abbreviated certification courses which do not have a hands-on component are not accepted.
We will offer an American Heart Association CPR class during our PTr Premier Education 4-day course, Master Fitness Specialist course, Group Exercise Leadership course and Fitness Specialist for Older Adults course, pending participation of 5 people. You will be asked to raise your hand for participation during the introductory lecture of each of these courses. If there are 5 people interested then the course will be held on one night of class from 6:30 - 9:30 pm The fee of $35 is payable to the CPR instructor.
It is not required that you obtain your CPR certification at The Cooper Institute. You may contact your local American Heart Association, Red Cross, hospital, or fire department and attend a course prior to or after you complete a Cooper Institute education course. However, if you wish to sit for the CI-CPT Certification Examination, you must have CPR proof at exam check in.
Obtaining Manuals Early
The Cooper Institute provides several ways in which to obtain your manuals early so that you can start reviewing the material.
If you have registered for a Personal Training Education option, your course materials will be automatically shipped to you when you complete registration.
For other courses, if you pay in full at pre-registration, just add $7 to your tuition pmt and note on your registration that you want the manual shipped to you (we cannot ship to P.O. boxes, only street addresses). Your manual will be sent UPS Ground and arrive in 7-10 business days. If you do not wish to pay in full at the time of pre-registration, you may purchase the manuals online at our web site or by calling (800) 635-7050 and pay the manual cost (usually $35) plus shipping. When you complete your tuition payment on the first day of the course notify us that you have your book and we will deduct the cost of the manual from your course fee. We cannot deduct sales tax or shipping costs. Maximum book credit for Resistance Training Instruction is $20.
Registration Confirmation
Registrants via our web site should receive a confirmation letter by e-mail shortly after completing all registration processes online.
Registrants via mail or telephone should receive a confirmation letter by mail 3-4 weeks prior to the start of the course. You may also request your confirmation letter be sent via e-mail if you provide your e-mail address.
Please call (800) 635-7050 and ask the receptionist for the Program Coordinator's Line to request a confirmation letter reprint.
Classroom Environment
Always bring a sweater or jacket to ensure comfort. Smoking is prohibited within and around all buildings on the Cooper campus. Please feel free to bring something to drink as needed. We often provide light snacks before class and during breaks.
Workshop Needs
Casual clothes, exercise clothes, swimsuit, and shoes, calculator, pencil, current CPR required for most curriculum-based certificate programs. Please check your course confirmation letter if you need further information.
